the last day, we had some hours to spare before our evening flight. we walked from the GH to the Russian Market which sold mostly mass-produced china-made souvenirs aimed to con the uninitiated. well ok van and i knowingly jumped into the trap because we needed to buy some shiz for friends as evidence of friendsforeverness. i wouldnt say it is anything spectacular or hugely different from the markets you have anywhere else in the region.. the standards ( bad imitations, keychains, hammocks, shawls, lacquered ware, ugly tshirts (SAME SAME BUT DIFFERENT)). we sat down for a lil bit at a cafe to hydrate ourselves and tuktuked back. Visited the Old Market (Psa Chaas) which was a bigger, more sophisticated version of the Russian market that offered a wider variety.Due to the pathetic state of finances, we were disinterested by the otherwise pretty attractive range of goods – fake poolo tees, watches, fake adidas apparels and blah.
Went to the mall, and there was this amazing Chinese shop with mandopop stuff, a korean street ( but er…), and a roller blading area with an arcade. We did the bball machine thing and Van the COOL basketballer impressed the kids there i guess…….HAHAHA…………=|
Hung out at the guesthouse and watched some boredom video about angkor wat and khmer history ZZZ. i like history but the presentation doesnt need to be this sleep inducing. van made some shandy drinkzz niceness. Checked out and we were driven to the Cheong Ek Killing Fields which was the very site where some mass execution occured. Very uncomfortable and sad place- rows and rows of skulls, piles of bones and random old clothes of the prisoners. DAMN THE KHMER ROUGE.
at the airport, a vietnamese dude offered us some durians from Kep woohoo. but it was just too much so we offered it to another group of singaporeans who actually volunteered at Kompong Thom for the past few weeks. They were kinda high and all. Guess we were all kinda high- was the first singaporean moment in a long time.
And we are back.
